Thomas R. Bowen, MD, is chief of Orthopaedic Oncology for the Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute and an orthopaedic surgeon at Geisinger Medical Center. Dr. Bowen earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. He continued his orthopaedic residency at Geisinger Medical Center and then proceeded to Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital for fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology. Dr. Bowen is board certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the prestigious American Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Bowen’s clinical interests include tumors of the musculoskeletal system (bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon, and peripheral nerves). He specializes in limb-preserving surgery for malignant tumors, as well as minimally invasive treatments for benign tumors and bone cysts. He cares for children and adults with tumors of the musculoskeletal system.

Dr. Bowen is by far the most Compassionate understanding and knowledgeable, hand surgeon that I have ever seen I would recommend him to anyone he takes time with every patient , explains everything the pros and the cons , explains exactly what's gonna be done with surgery, and exactly what to expect in the recovery. Initial visit with Dr. Bowen went well considering the circumstances - we are waiting on results which is making us very nervous and Dr. Bowen and Nurse [...] were especially caring and understanding as they helped ease our mind in the sensitive situation.

Dr. Bowen removed a large malignant tumor to save my life two and a half years ago. A few doctors that I saw for other unrelated problems remarked that It was a brilliant surgery that saved both my leg and my life so I will always be thankful that I had Dr. Bowen and I would recommend him to anybody.
