R. Lucas Shelly is a board-certified hospitalist. He cares for hospitalized adults, treating them for serious illnesses. He orders medicine, proper treatments, diagnostic studies or lab work and consults with specialists when necessary.
Dr. Shelly also facilitates communication between the patient, their family and their care team members. “Together, we strive to improve our patients’ critical conditions so they can be discharged from the hospital and continue to recuperate at home or the next level of care,” he says.
He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his osteopathic medicine degree. After medical school, Dr. Shelly completed his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Allentown.
“It’s a privilege to care for people in their sickest and most vulnerable state and helping them heal and recover,” he says.
He co-founded a successful hospital medicine program at another healthcare system. Under his leadership, the program grew to more than 10 times its original size.
Dr. Shelly is a native of Bucks County. He spent over 20 years in Chambersburg before relocating to State College.
