About Osama Shaheen

Osama Shaheen, MD, is a general surgeon specializing in bariatric and foregut surgery. He performs a variety of surgical treatments for adults, including Nissen/Toupet fundoplication, Heller myotomy, laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair, LINX procedure, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), gastric sleeve, duodenal switch, single anastomosis duodeno–ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy, (SADI-S) and revisional bariatric surgery.
Dr. Shaheen attended Damascus University in Damascus, Syria, where he earned his medical degree. After medical school, he completed a residency at Damascus University Hospital. He followed that with a fellowship in multi-organ abdominal transplant surgery and a residency in general surgery, both at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He also completed a fellowship in bariatric and advanced minimally invasive surgery with the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Associates (ALSA) Medical Group in Fresno, California.
He’s received several Excellence in Teaching Awards during his residency and fellowships.
He and his wife Latifa moved to the area in 2023. “I decided to move to Geisinger, a healthcare system known for its superior quality,” he notes.

    I reviewed Dr. Shaheen's extensive surgical background and appreciated his years of experience in organ transplantation. That kind of practice takes incredible skill. And made my gastric sleeve seem like a cake walk In comparison. I decided I'd like to meet him and know more. This man is a real gem in person. Every time I see him he is energetic and has the best smile. You can truly sense his passion for what he does and for his patients success. All the nurses and staff always had great things to say about him as well. He Is amazing at what he does. I highly recommend Dr. Osama Shaheen.

    I have really enjoyed Dr Shaheen!!! He is a great doctor who truly cares about his patients! He listens to you and gives you the best advice possible! He is very thorough and explains things extremely well! He made my worries less because of how opened he was! I totally trust him and appreciated him helping me through my post surgery the last 8 months

    Dr. Shaheen spent a great deal of time going over all of my tests that were done and what I needed to consider for the possible surgery. He was extremely thorough and answered all of my questions! Just a great doctor all around. All Providers should be like him!

    We were very impressed with Dr. Shaheen, particularly the patience he showed in explaining the possible treatment options and discussing my condition. He had taken time to review my past medical history and results of prior tests and, as a result, recommended I take a CT Scan to better address a specific issue/problem.
