About John James Mercuri

Dr. John James Mercuri is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement and complex revision surgery. Born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he returned home to provide advanced joint replacement care after training at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, the NYU Langone Health Orthopedic Hospital (formerly Hospital for Joint Diseases), and the Insall Scott Kelly Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Manhattan.

Dr. Mercuri performs hundreds of hip and knee replacements each year, and he has built his practice around modern, personalized joint replacement surgery using advanced technologies such as computer navigation, augmented reality and robotics. He has particular expertise in subvastus kinematic alignment for knee replacement and personalized implant positioning for hip replacement. Dr. Mercuri has also developed perioperative protocols that minimize pain and swelling, avoid opioids, and help patients return more quickly to walking and daily activities after surgery.

In addition to caring for patients, he serves as Director of the Geisinger Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, Associate Program Director of the Geisinger Northeast Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, and Associate Professor at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. As an adult reconstruction surgeon, educator and researcher, Dr. Mercuri has published and presented nationally and internationally on hip and knee replacement. He is committed to helping patients in Northeastern Pennsylvania access the same high-level expertise they might seek at a major metropolitan center while receiving care in their own community.

    Very professional, would recommend to anyone needing orthopedic surgery.However,he was more concerned with my chronic pain meds,like I was there for meds,Did not comprehend how difficult it is for someone with chronic pain to keep working.
