Rafael Martinez-Perez, MD, PhD, is a fellowship trained skull-base neurosurgeon who treats several types of brain tumors, including complex skull base tumors, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, pituitary tumors, chordomas, craniopharyngiomas and brainstem tumors. He also treats patients with trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari malformation and head and neck cancers.
Dr. Martinez-Perez’s practice specializes in skull base neurosurgery, minimally invasive brain surgery and endoscopic brain surgery.
“The brain is a beautiful and fascinating organ that allows us to understand and interact with the world,” he says. “Helping patients overcome brain conditions that threaten its function truly motivates me.”
Dr. Martinez-Perez’s proudest professional accomplishments include helping to develop minimally invasive approaches and new surgical routes for safer, more effective outcomes for his patients.
Dr. Martinez-Perez earned his medical degree from the University of Murcia in Murcia, Spain, He completed his residency training at the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain, where he also earned a doctorate in biomedical sciences. Dr. Martinez-Perez completed fellowships in Vascular Neurosurgery at University of Chile and Skull Base Neurosurgery at University of Colorado. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Minimally Invasive Skull Base Neurosurgery at Ohio State University.

Dr. Martinez Perez is so compassionate, and he truly cares about his patients. He took the time to answer all of my questions and address any concerns. I trusted him with my brain and care. When my daughter needed a neurosurgeon, we chose Geisinger Neurosurgery for their professionalism and the care their team provides.

Dr Martinez Perez seemed to be in such a rush and that I wasn't worth his time!! I asked to see imaging of where my skull was cut open and to know where the plates and screws were, and the doc said he had too many other patients to show me. He told me to you tube my surgery. Very rude and very inconsiderate!! Rushed me, I didn't have time to ask all my questions. When asked if there are any restrictions to activity, he told me no, you can go running if you want. I still have difficulty walking for him to suggest such a thing. And is it really ok for me to life 50 lb weights, I don't know because the doctor told me it's ok to do whatever I want but I somehow don't think I am really able to do anything and everything without restrictions! Again very rude, made me feel not worth his time so I feel like it was a waste of my time!!

I was afraid to come in to see yet another neurosurgeon, I've seen a few, not from this network, that were down right nasty people. I was scared id be told to loose weight and try yoga again, but this provider listened took time with examining me and I actually felt heard. I was blown away. Now I'm concerned about the next appointment same office different provider to see if he thinks a surgical intervention would be helpful.

All I can say is I Love Dr. Perez . He goes above and beyond !! I always feel like I was getting the best care from him and all his Staff I would recommend him and have told everyone about him. Couldn't find a better Surgeon !!!
