Pooja Sanghi, MD

Pooja Sanghi, MD, is a nephrologist specializing in kidney transplants. She treats adults through every step of the transplant process, from evaluating living donors, finding deceased donors, evaluating recipients and managing post-transplant care.
Dr. Sanghi earned her medical degree from Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, India. She followed that with a fellowship in transplant nephrology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She also completed fellowships in general nephrology from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Geisinger Medical Center. 
As medical director of transplant nephrology at Geisinger, Dr. Sanghi serves on various hospital committees, helping to shape policy and improve standards of care. She enjoys working as part of a team. “The multidisciplinary approach, working with surgeons, coordinators, pharmacists and social workers fosters a sense of teamwork,” she says.
Beyond her collaboration with her colleagues, Dr. Sanghi says she loves “seeing how a kidney transplant can give patients more years away from dialysis and fatigue to a dramatically improved quality of life. Seeing that transformation firsthand is incredibly rewarding.”
She adds, “As a transplant nephrologist, I can follow my patients for years after surgery, building meaningful connections and guiding them through complex journeys.”
Dr. Sanghi also enjoys her role as a teacher and mentor. “Training residents, fellows and medical students and watching them grow into skilled clinicians is a major source of pride,” she says.
