Mona Duncan, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast surgery. She provides care for women who need a wide range of breast care and breast procedures, including breast cancer surgery, surgical treatment for dense breasts and breast cysts, and high-risk screenings due to family history of breast cancer. She also provides care for benign breast conditions such as mastitis, non-cancerous breast lumps, nipple discharge and breast itchiness.
Dr. Duncan has a clinical interest in breast cancer, the SAVISCOUT® procedure, an advanced treatment for breast biopsy, tumors and lymph nodes, and oncoplastic breast procedures.
A mother, sister and daughter, Dr. Duncan believes all women have the right to excellent breast care. She wants every woman to understand her options for screening, diagnosis and treatment to achieve their best breast health.
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Duncan earned her medical degree from the Weill Medical School at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., followed by a residency in breast surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
Her unwavering commitment to educating her patients and helping them understand their options has earned her the Geisinger Excellence in Caring Award.
Dr. Duncan is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three daughters and puppy. She loves to read, travel, ski and solve puzzles.

Dr. DUNCAN IS a Superb doctor. Always very knowledgeable, also very fast in replying via portal. Very thorough, and tries to best accommodate patients' needs. I think she is one of the best in Geisinger in her area-- would always prefer her advice.

My first visit with Dr. Duncan, she was caring, compassionate and easy to talk to. I did follow up with her and had surgery. She was wonderful, I never felt so cared for. She visited with me before surgery and after surgery, never rushed and giving me all the confidence I needed. I have recommended her to many of my friends.

Dr. Duncan treated me with consummate professionalism. She listened attentively, examined me carefully, and clearly explained my clinical situation and treatment options. I was deeply impressed by her knowledge, but most especially by her demeanor. She was sympathetic and attentive to my questions and emotions, while still being efficient in completing her examination. I left feeling relieved because I had gained new knowledge about my diagnosis and the course of my care.

It was a lot of information to take in. Maybe slow down some and being it down from medical terminology to a laid person's understanding. Don't get me wrong Dr. Duncan was great, just A LOT of Information to receive all at one time In such a short time.

Dr Duncan is wonderful...so kind and concerned about yout issue. She makes eye contact as she talks to you. I have recommended her to several people.

Meeting Dr. Duncan for the first time and learning of my [...] diagnosis (daunting, scary and overwhelming) - she was articulate, caring and took time for me and my husband to answer any and all questions. She has since followed up with a phone call on her busy surgery day to discuss my [...] results, has ordered more tests and explained as much as I needed to ask. If this was a scale of 1-10----- it would be a 10.

Dr Duncan is not only a very skilled surgeon, she takes time to really listen to concerns beyond the scope of her surgery. She is compassionate and caring. These are qualities that are increasingly rare these days.

Dr. Mona Duncan is an exceptionally competent and caring provider. I trust her implicitly. She always listens, takes my questions seriously, and gives clear and understandable information. I cannot say enough about Dr. Mona Druncan. She is professional, knowledgeable, skilled, empathic, very clear in her explanations and recommendations in the kindest way one could imagine. She also has a sense of humor and a smile that suggests confidence and caring. She has a special way of making challenging times for her patients feel that 'everything is going to be ok,' while at the same time being completely truthful. She tells it 'Like it is,' while at the same her manner and voice lets you that she is and will continue to do everything to support her patients. She's one in a million!!!
