There is no publicly available rating for this care provider for one or more of the following reasons:
  1. He or she does not see patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
  2. He or she sees patients, but has not yet received the minimum number of Patient Satisfaction Reviews. To be eligible for display, we require a minimum of 40 surveys. This ensures that the rating is accurate and statistically reliable.
  3. He or she is a community provider, not a Geisinger-employed provider. Community providers tend to see patients in their own private outpatient practices, which we do not survey.

Due to a serious digestive problem, I coincidentally had to consult w/Dr. Mateer a few weeks before this appt. Apparently he was unavailable because Dr. Shaeffer (sp?) replied w/instructions that made sense to both me & my PA. At this appt, Dr. Mateer seemed angry at me & Dr. Shaeffer for making a small change to my meds for a short period of time because of the digestive problem, despite the fact that I told him at least 3 times that the change only lasted for 7 days before he heard me. Also, he tested my vision using an eye chart in the hallway. He asked me to read the smallest line that I could, which was the 3rd line from the bottom, and he indicated that he couldn't see it without his glasses. If that's true, how would he know if the letters I was reading were accurate? I will continue to see Dr. Mateer annually to procure my prescription, but I don't feel like he knows who I am or what my situation is, particularly because he doesn't pay attention to me & seems like he's rushing to finish and move on to the next patient.

Dr. Mateer is great! I'm sure in the grand scheme of things, my issues are minor, but he still makes me feel like he is sincerely interested and is always present (mentally and physically) at my appointments.

It was a good experience with Dr. Mateer. I was late for my appointment. Consequently, he took another patient. This contributed to my delay.

I have migraine pain a lot. It isn't rebound pain from taking too much medicine. When I ask about what to do about the pain they just look at me. I went hoping to get some advice on managing frequent migraines. I got sent for an MRI, and haven't heard back since.

Didn't feel he was listening to anything I was telling him or asking about the pains I was having. For instance, didn't do any check on my neck which is the main source of my pain, just ordered more tests. Also told me I may be a person who just has "a lot of aches and pains". Was only first visit, he seems friendly and knowledgeable. I understand more testing needs to be done before he can give me too much information regarding my issues. Overall, I was satisfied with him for a first visit.
