There is no publicly available rating for this care provider for one or more of the following reasons:
  1. He or she does not see patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
  2. He or she sees patients, but has not yet received the minimum number of Patient Satisfaction Reviews. To be eligible for display, we require a minimum of 30 surveys. This ensures that the rating is accurate and statistically reliable.
  3. He or she is a community provider, not a Geisinger-employed provider. Community providers tend to see patients in their own private outpatient practices, which we do not survey.

Great doctor

Again, no followup care was needed, so question number 6 is irrelevant.

This doctor is outstanding. Very patiently walked through the results and explained in detail what test results meant - in understandable English too.

Provider makes sure that he communicates with me on any problems himself and doesn't pass it on to someone else which makes me feel taken care of.

Moves to quick and does not listen to patient very well. Sometimes disrespectful.

Dr. Mateer has always been a wonderful care provider for me. He is thorough, always listens to my concerns and is very personable. GMC doesn't know how blessed they are to have such a great physician.

Due to a serious digestive problem, I coincidentally had to consult w/Dr. Mateer a few weeks before this appt. Apparently he was unavailable because Dr. Shaeffer (sp?) replied w/instructions that made sense to both me & my PA. At this appt, Dr. Mateer seemed angry at me & Dr. Shaeffer for making a small change to my meds for a short period of time because of the digestive problem, despite the fact that I told him at least 3 times that the change only lasted for 7 days before he heard me. Also, he tested my vision using an eye chart in the hallway. He asked me to read the smallest line that I could, which was the 3rd line from the bottom, and he indicated that he couldn't see it without his glasses. If that's true, how would he know if the letters I was reading were accurate? I will continue to see Dr. Mateer annually to procure my prescription, but I don't feel like he knows who I am or what my situation is, particularly because he doesn't pay attention to me & seems like he's rushing to finish and move on to the next patient.

Dr. Mateer is great! I'm sure in the grand scheme of things, my issues are minor, but he still makes me feel like he is sincerely interested and is always present (mentally and physically) at my appointments.

Dr. John Mateer is a terrific neurologist and an asset to Geisinger. I have never had a less then excellent experience when visiting his practice.

I was late, so I would not have expected a lot.
